Tummy tuck is an important surgery for improving the appearance of patients who have problems with protruding bellies. It helps to eliminate excess skin and fat. However, it is often performed in conjunction with liposuction surgery which is also a very popular cosmetic surgery. Like a tummy tuck, lipo can be used for the elimination of belly fat, or from anywhere on the body.
A tummy tuck is medical operation that is usually performed on men and women who have loose abdominal skin. Contrary to popular belief, the tummy tuck and liposuction surgeries are not designed to be weight loss solutions for overweight patients. Instead, tummy tuck surgery helps by tightening the skin in the stomach area. Exercise alone does not remedy the problem because it is primarily for muscles and not skin. The tummy tuck procedure, and liposuction, will help to regain the elasticity of the skin in the abdomen. The doctor will also achieve this by removing excess fat which will help to get the best appearance.
There is also a procedure known as a “mini tummy tuck”, also known as a partial abdominoplasty. This is less invasive than a normal tummy tuck surgery (full abdominoplasty). In a mini tummy tuck, the plastic sureon will remove excess skin and fat in the region between the pubic bone and the belly button. With these surgeries, there is usually no need to alter the underlying muscles of the patient.
Scarring is one of the drawbacks to tummy tuck plastic surgery. A full abdominoplasty procedure will usually leave a long scar often extending from one hip to the other in the lower abdominal region. Scars may also be visible around the navel in cases where the belly button has been repositioned. Generally, these areas are the ones in which the doctor makes the incisions for the removal of the fat and skin. A partial abdominoplasty, or “mini tummy tuck,” is commonly referred to as the “scarless” tummy tuck. This procedure produces considerably less scarring that is visible as the scar runs horizontally below the navel. The scarring is less noticeable because the excess fat and skin are removed from in the lower abdominal area and the navel isn’t affected.
After tummy tuck surgery, women usually wear one-piece bathing suits which can be just as sexy as bikinis if they have high cuts in the thigh area. Two piece hipsters, tankinis and monokinis can also be worn and they have cut outs at the back and sides that create a sexy look. Any of these suits will look great and show off the flattened abs without revealing any scars. Unfortunately, a very skimpy bikini, thong or string suit will likely be too revealing and will likely reveal scars. Men who have a tummy tuck will most likely be able to wear any type of swimsuit other than a thong. Scars for men are usually close to the pubic hair line and less noticeable.
Plastic surgeons do not recommend having multiple tummy tuck procedures. Therefore, it is best to lose as much weight as possible before the surgery. Losing weight after a tummy tuck surgery usually creates lose skin which then negates the effectiveness of the original tummy tuck. Also, it should be noted that a tummy tuck and liposuction procedures also help to eliminate stretch marks in the abdomen.
Tummy tuck surgical procedures create a tighter body appearance. If you abdominal region is not what it once was, perhaps due to aging, weight loss, or pregnancy, then you should contact a plastic surgeon to see if this can help you.
